Lomi-laxation Massage
If you are stressed, overwhelmed or overworked, then this "traditional" relaxation option is for you. When you are stressed, nerves can be in a constant excited, or firing, state which may lead to dysfunctional tension patterns or disturbances in sleep. Some benefits of this service include:
Soothed overactive nerves
Increased blood flow
Reduced swelling and inflammation
Rejuvenated and balanced state of being
Decreased tension
Maintaining an open communication with your therapist will ensure that the right pressure is being used. A perk to Island Hands' version of Relaxation Massage is the use of a Hawaiian modality of massage called Lomi Lomi. In Hawaiian, it means “to knead” but it mainly uses the forearms and the elbows for smooth, gliding movements and pressure. This service is not intended to treat problem areas or adhesions.
Island Roots Therapy (Therapeutic)
Are you struggling with chronic pain and tension due to a previous injury or something work related? You might feel that your energy levels, mood and quality of life are being affected because of this. With Island Roots Therapy, the therapist addresses your specific issues by getting to the root cause. Postural assessments will be utilized to gauge progress and find limiting tissues. A targeted and softer technique may be necessary as opposed to a hard, intrusive pressure. Benefits of this service include:
Increased range of motion (ROM)
Increased awareness and feeling in ischemic tissues (lacking blood flow)
Decreased nerve entrapment (dysfunction in nerve signals)
Decreased swelling and inflammation
You might be sore a for a few days after treatment, as if you had a deep tissue massage. The therapist might need to work on tissues in sensitive or near intimate areas and will always ask for permission before doing so. Let's work together to treat your chronic issues so you can get back to doing what you love and need to do.
Ho`oponopono Massage (Deep Tissue)
Ho`oponono can be roughly interpreted as, "to make right". Mostly used in relationships between people, the meaning here refers to making the relations between mind, body and spirit right again with profound touch. The therapist thoroughly warms up the body and then targets the stubborn areas determined by client and therapist. Pressure is gradually applied as to not cause a guarding reaction from your sympathetic nervous system (fight, flight or freeze response). Benefits include:
Increased range of motion (ROM)
Release of deep fascial and muscular restrictions
Restoration of blood flow and nerve function
Better co-ordination and muscle activation
It is important to maintain communication with your therapist if the pressure becomes intolerable. You will be sore over the next few days, but hydrating and resting from strenuous activity will help to expedite the healing process. If you are able to do so, going for a 30-minute walk at least once a day over the next 2-3 days will help as well. If you are hard on your body, then let's get you back to feeling normal and limber again with a deep tissue massage!
Manual Lymphatic Drainage
Considered the secondary circulatory system, the lymph system is responsible for collecting and transporting excess fluids in the body back to the heart. From there it can be filtered through the kidneys and sent out of the body. It is also a part of the immune system as the lymph nodes trap and dispose of harmful organisms or substances before moving fluids along. This treatment is for those who are experiencing lots of swelling in a particular area, have had their lymph nodes removed, or have had cancer treatment with chemotherapy or radiation. Benefits include:
Decreased swelling and inflammation
Decreased pain associated with swelling/inflammation
Increased energy
More definition and contouring of affected body parts
Manual Lymphatic Drainage can help to move fluids 20x faster in most cases. Many clients will also receive a lymphatic service before surgery and a few services afterward to help with the healing process. If you are suffering from one of the previous situations, or heading into or out of surgery, then let's speed your recovery along with lymphatic services.
Lima A Wawae (Hands and Feet)
Our hands and feet get used quite a lot but are often neglected. Here is a treatment that focuses solely on these 4 tools. As time permits, the forearms and lower legs may be incorporated into the mix. This service is both relaxing and therapeutic as the therapist can zone in on specific knots in each area. Benefits include:
Targeted time on your favorites areas to be massaged
A more thorough treatment of tension patterns and dysfunctions
Increased blood flow
Increased co-ordination and ROM
Please make sure that fingernails and toenails are clean and trimmed for the safety and comfort of the therapist. Let your stress and anxiety melt away with a hands and feet massage today!
Wawae (Foot Reflexology)
Most people look for reflexologists to effect or stimulate change in other areas of the body. While that may be true for some, others have restrictions in blood flow or tension patterns that prevent them from feeling these benefits. At Island Hands, we compliment the traditional foot reflexology treatment by addressing the physical aspect of muscle tension in the feet as well as to correct any dysfunctions. Benefits include:
More proprioception (awareness in space) of the feet and toes
Increased and restored blood flow to stagnant tissues
Increased joint mobility
Restored balance at the ankle
Overall sense of well-being
Please ensure that toenails are properly trimmed and feet are cleaned prior to the service. This combination of Reflexology and therapeutic foot massage is a great treatment for those who are on their feet all day. Get back on stable footing with Wawae Foot Reflexology!
